Supplied-Air vs. Cartridge Respirators
Cartridge respirators filter ambient air through a chemical cartridge and are appropriate only for brief, well-ventilated exposure scenarios — they are not the standard for active spraying, where isocyanate vapor and overspray concentration in an enclosed cavity can exceed what a cartridge is rated to filter. Supplied-air respirator systems pipe clean, compressed breathing air from outside the work area directly to a full-face hood, keeping the applicator's air source completely independent of the spray environment regardless of ventilation conditions. For anyone actually pulling the trigger, supplied-air is the standard — not an upgrade.
Beyond the respirator itself, full-body barrier protection matters just as much. Isocyanates are absorbed dermally as well as inhaled, so uncovered skin — wrists, neck, any gap between glove and sleeve — is a real exposure pathway even with a properly fitted respirator hood. We stock disposable coveralls rated for chemical splash protection, nitrile gloves sized for a secure cuff seal, and boot covers so your crew isn't tracking overspray residue through the truck and into their own vehicle at the end of the day.

Sizing a Supplied-Air System to Your Crew
A supplied-air compressor unit needs to comfortably support every technician working in the overspray zone at once, not just the single applicator holding the gun. A crew running two people inside a cavity space — one spraying, one assisting or monitoring — needs a system rated for simultaneous multi-user draw, not a single-user unit stretched past its rated capacity. Undersizing the compressor shows up as reduced airflow to the hood, which is exactly the failure mode that makes a technician more likely to break the seal or remove the hood early rather than push through discomfort.
